Tips
on Staying Healthy in Bali
Recommended vaccinations:
- Ensure that all vaccinations are up to date especially;
- Hepatitis - A
- Typhoid
- Tetanus
- Polio
Rabies vaccination is not recommended, but be careful of touching
or feeding wild animals.
Mosquito
borne diseases:
Malaria prophylaxis is not recommended, however there are
sporadic Malaria cases reported from the island.
For all mosquito borne diseases the advice is:
Don't get bitten!
Þ wear mosquito repellent,
Þ cover up to avoid getting bitten
Healthy eating & drinking:
Be careful of what you eat & drink - "Peel it
- boil it - use it only when newly opened"
Environmental
- Drink water regularly before feeling thirsty
- Protect yourself from the sun - Wear Sunblock & protective
clothing which will protect you from sun burn, but remember
these do not prevent heat stroke and skin cancer.
- Be careful when swimming - swim between the flags &
check the depth before diving in.
Personal
Safety:
- Pack a first aid kit.
- Always carry a copy of your passport
- Check that you have valid travel & medical insurance.
- Be careful when hiring and driving motor vehicles &
motor bikes unless you are confident with the local traffic
conditions.
- Careful with alcoholic drinks as they dehydrate the body,
this can become a problem in the tropics - drink plenty of
clean water as well.
- Take all usual precautions against theft and attack.
- Protect yourself against sexually transmitted diseases.
- Remember - illicit drug taking attracts the death penalty
in Indonesia
